Build your solar skills now, so your team is ready when customers need roofing and solar together. EU rules are bringing solar into more building projects. For roofing companies, this is the time to build the skills, partnerships and services to offer solar alongside roofing.
By the end of 2026 · New larger buildings
Solar requirements cover new public and non-residential buildings over 250 m².
By the end of 2027 · Renovation projects
Requirements extend to existing non-residential buildings over 500 m² during major renovations or qualifying work requiring a permit. Existing public buildings over 2,000 m² are also included.
By the end of 2028 · More public buildings
Existing public buildings over 750 m² join the requirements.
By the end of 2029 · New homes
Requirements extend to new residential buildings and new roofed car parks directly beside buildings. Commission guidance links the new-home requirement to permit applications from 1 January 2030.
By the end of 2030 · Smaller public buildings
Existing public buildings over 250 m² are included.
